Emmanuel O. Chidebe spends a 3-month Lab Exchange at Tel Aviv University as a Visiting Scholar (Dec 2025 – Feb 2026)
Emmanuel, a Ph.D. student in the DELSU Joint Canada-Israel Neuroscience and Biopsychiatry Laboratory under the supervision of Dr. Ben-Azu, spends a 3-month predoctoral fellowship/Lab exchange at the Department of Neurobiology, School of Neurobiology, Biochemistry & Biophysics George S. Wise Faculty of Life Sciences, Sagol School of Neuroscience, Tel Aviv University, Israel, as a visiting Scholar. During his stay at Tel Aviv University, he focused on exploring how microglia and neurons interact within the realm of neuroinflammation caused by immunosenescence, in Prof Dan Frenkel’s lab. Throughout his visit, he worked with in vitro culture systems, assessing how different pathogens could affect microglial reactive states, neuronal health, and subsequent outcomes. By employing molecular approaches like gene expression analysis, he further examined important inflammatory and beneficial signaling pathways involved in neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, gaining valuable insights into how abnormal microglial responses can impact neuronal function. Overall, his experience in Frenkel’s lab has deepened his knowledge in translational neuropharmacology and highlighted the exciting potential for therapies that target microglial activity in neurological conditions like Alzheimer’s.
